Overwhelmed - and Giving Hope - in Mississippi
When Bill and the team arrived tonight in Lakeshore, he called me. His voice sounded so different, I immediately thought something was seriously wrong. Maybe after over 20 hours in the car the guys had decided they all hated each other - or maybe the trailer's tire had gone flat - or maybe they were lost and just driving on and on - or worse, maybe someone was hurt or something bad had happened.
"What's the matter? What's going on?"
No, it was nothing like that. They were safe. They were there. And that was the problem.
They were there.
And then I knew. He was seeing it - the devastation (I hate words that describe enormous events - they seem to lose their meaning so quickly), the starkness, the loss, the absolute massiveness of the destruction on the Gulf coast.
"I can't believe what I'm seeing."
Hear it in his own words, on his first audio blog from this Mississippi trip. He'll be audio-posting often, so check there frequently.
And pray for our guys. Lou, part of our Chapel family, wrote me tonight to say he and his wife Jane are praying that "those affected will see the face of Jesus in each of our team." Amen, Lou. Amen.
